Baz Luhrmann is interested in converting his musical 2001 Moulin Rouge into 3D. The Australian filmmaker revealed his wish in an Entertainment Weekly Radio interview on Friday.

After a bunch of box-office hits like Titanic, Jurassic Park, and The Lion King were re-released in 3D,Moulin Rouge might be next in line. The Australian filmmaker suggests that the technological prowess being used in cinema today motivates him.

"Because conversion is getting better and better,I'm going to ask the guys at Fox... maybe can we convert Moulin Rouge! to 3-D," he said.

Luhrmann also believes that he was shootingMoulin Rouge with a vision for 3D. "I think in a strange way I was trying to make a 3-D movie," he said, adding its potential might be more easily achieved in that respect.

But Luhrmann also made it known that he was not too keen on giving all his films the 3D treatment. "I think Moulin Rouge! would suit it. Romeo + Juliet I'm not sure about," he said.

The 2001 film stars Ewan McGregor, who plays the part of Christian, an English poet, and NicoleKidman, who portrays Satine, a terminally-ill carabaret actor and courtesan. The film won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (comedy or musical), Best Actress, and Best Original Sound Score. It also won two Academy Awards, for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.

Most recently, Luhrmann shot The Great Gatsby in 3-D. The film is due out on Blu-Ray on Aug. 27.
